What a notes app should be

No gimmicky blocks, no locked-in formats. Just writing, made quiet, reliable and pleasant.

Markdown, live

A CodeMirror 6 editor with live preview. Highlighted code, tables, task lists and Mermaid diagrams work out of the box.

Links and a graph

Connect notes with [[title]] and backlinks appear on their own. The graph shows scattered ideas growing into a web.

Ask your notes

Ask in plain language and get answers with the notes they came from. Over MCP, Claude and other AI tools can read and write the same notes.

Local-first sync

Every edit lands on your device first and syncs when you are online. Concurrent edits are merged three-way; a conflict never loses a word.

One media library

Paste or drop to upload, with duplicates merged. See which notes use each file; unused files are cleaned up for you.

Share and publish

Share a note with a password and an expiry date, or push a whole folder to your WordPress blog automatically.

Easy to move in

Import Markdown files, whole folders or a Joplin export, with attachments and links between notes kept intact.

Encrypted at rest

Note bodies and attachments are stored encrypted with layered keys (KEK → DEK), so a leaked database backup reveals nothing.

Many libraries, no sign-up needed

On desktop, create a local library that lives only on your computer, no account required, or connect several servers at once. Tabs and light and dark themes included.

Questions

Is ivyNote free?

The desktop apps are free to download, and a local library needs no account. ivyNote Cloud plans and quotas are listed in the service; self-hosting is coming soon.

Where are my notes stored?

On your device first, so they work offline. When you sign in they sync to the server you chose: ivyNote Cloud or your own.

Which data center should I pick?

Pick "Mainland China" if you are in mainland China and "Global" everywhere else. Accounts and data in the two regions are separate.

macOS says the app "is damaged". What now?

This build is not notarized by Apple yet. Run xattr -cr /Applications/Ivynote.app in Terminal and open it again. See the guide for details.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Notes are plain Markdown and can be exported as a zip at any time, attachments included.
