FAQ

The most common questions about price, data, sync and platforms.

Is ivyNote free?

The desktop apps are free to download, and a local library needs no account. ivyNote Cloud plans and quotas are described in the service. Self-hosting is coming soon; join the waitlist on the download page.

Where are my notes stored?

On your device first, so they work offline. Once you sign in they sync to the server you chose (ivyNote Cloud or your own) and are stored encrypted there.

Mainland China or global data center?

Mostly in mainland China: "Mainland China" (web.ivynote.net). Elsewhere: "Global" (web.ivynote.app). Accounts in the two regions are separate. See Choosing a data center.

macOS says the app "is damaged"?

This build is not notarized by Apple yet. Run in Terminal:

xattr -cr /Applications/Ivynote.app

See Installing.

Is there a mobile app?

Android and iOS apps are in the works; join the waitlist on the download page. Meanwhile, the web app works in mobile browsers.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Settings → Export all notes gives you a zip of plain Markdown files and attachments. See Import and export.

Can I move from another notes app?

ivyNote imports Markdown files, Markdown folders (an Obsidian vault, a Typora folder…) and Joplin exports. See Import and export.

What if I edit a note on two devices at once?

The server merges three-way. If both sides changed the same lines, a conflict copy is created; nothing is lost. See Offline and sync.

Can I get a deleted note back?

Deleted notes go to the trash and can be restored. Synced libraries also keep history for earlier versions.

Is ivyNote open source?

The client is designed along an open-source boundary and is planned to be opened in due course. The server is proprietary.

How do I request a feature or report a bug?

Use Feedback. Accepted requests appear on the public board, where everyone can vote.
