GuideGetting started

Installing

Install the desktop app on macOS, Windows and Linux, and get past first-launch warnings.

The download page recommends the right installer for your device. Installers are served from a nearby mirror.

macOS

  1. Download the .dmg: Apple silicon for M1/M2/M3/M4 Macs, Intel for older ones. Not sure? Apple menu → About This Mac shows "Chip" or "Processor".
  2. Open the .dmg and drag ivyNote into Applications.
  3. If the first launch says "ivyNote" is damaged and can't be opened or that the developer cannot be verified:

This build is not notarized by Apple yet, and macOS quarantines downloaded apps. Open Terminal and run:

xattr -cr /Applications/Ivynote.app

Then open it again. You only need to do this once.

Requires macOS 11 Big Sur or later.

Windows

  1. Download the Installer .exe (recommended) or the .msi (for managed deployments).
  2. Run it. If Windows protected your PC (SmartScreen) appears, choose More info → Run anyway.
  3. The installer adds the WebView2 runtime when needed.

Requires Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.

Linux

Pick one of three formats:

Format Distributions Install
AppImage Almost all Make executable and run
.deb Debian, Ubuntu, Mint sudo apt install ./Ivynote_*.deb
.rpm Fedora, openSUSE, RHEL sudo dnf install ./Ivynote-*.rpm

Make the AppImage executable first:

chmod +x Ivynote_*.AppImage
./Ivynote_*.AppImage

If it complains about FUSE, install libfuse2 (Ubuntu 22.04+: sudo apt install libfuse2).

Web

Nothing to install: open it in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. In Chrome or Edge, the install icon in the address bar installs it as an app (PWA) that also opens offline.

Updating

Check the changelog for the latest version, download it and install over the old one. Your notes are not affected.
