Links and the graph

Connect notes with [[wiki links]], see backlinks and explore the graph.

Ivy grows by reaching from one stem to the next. ivyNote encourages notes to do the same.

Type [[ in the editor to pick a note:

Finished [[The Hidden Life of Trees]] today; compare with [[Photosynthesis notes]].
  • Links match by title; small differences in case and spacing do not matter.
  • ⌘/Ctrl-click a link to follow it.
  • Linking to a note that does not exist yet keeps a place for it.

Open a note to see which notes link to it. They often reveal connections you did not expect.

The graph

Graph in the left navigation draws your notes as a web, in three views:

  • Note links: the [[links]] between notes
  • Folders: notebooks and their notes
  • Tags: notes that share a tag

Drag nodes to rearrange, click one to open the note. With no links yet the graph is empty; add a few [[links]] and watch it grow.

Privacy

To compute backlinks on the server without revealing titles, link targets are stored as keyed hashes rather than plain titles. See Security.
