Troubleshooting
Fixes for connection errors, stuck sync, failed imports and more.
Connecting to a server fails
| Message | Likely cause and fix |
|---|---|
| Invalid address | The address must start with https:// or http://, e.g. https://web.ivynote.app |
| No response within 15 seconds | Check your network and that you chose the right data center; when self-hosting, check the service is running and the firewall allows it |
| The request was blocked | An old server without desktop support, a reverse proxy that strips CORS headers, or a proxy on your network. Upgrade the server or check the proxy |
| The server returned an error (HTTP xxx) | Click "Show log", copy it and send it via Feedback |
Stuck on "Syncing" or "Sync error"
- Check your connection; reload or restart the app.
- If it says "N changes refused by the server", open it to see why (e.g. an attachment over the size limit).
- As a last resort, Settings → Clear local cache downloads everything again. Unsynced changes are lost, so make sure important edits have synced first.
Import failed or partly failed
- Not UTF-8 text: convert the file to UTF-8 first.
- Local link target not found: single files cannot read the images they reference; import the whole folder.
- Network interrupted: import the same files again; it continues where it stopped without duplicates.
- Afterwards, Copy report and send it with your feedback.
Images do not show
- An image pasted while offline appears on other devices once it has synced.
The AppImage does not start on Linux
- Run
chmod +x Ivynote_*.AppImagefirst. - Install
libfuse2if FUSE is missing. - Or use the
.deb/.rpmpackage.
Windows shows SmartScreen
Choose More info → Run anyway.
